Welcome to the Netherlands Open Access Books Community!
We envision this space as a hub primarily for librarians and research support professionals in the Netherlands to exchange knowledge, resources, and developments in open access book publishing. We encourage community members to actively engage in discussions and suggest new contributions, including best practices, innovative ideas, and experiences, in line with our community guidelines.
Topics covered by our community

- Other
Although the community focuses on the Dutch academic context, we encourage participation by everyone with an interest in the broad theme of book publishing, including researchers, students, and publishers.
To engage with the community, you need to create a Knowledge Commons account. Contributions, comments, and questions are welcome both in Dutch and English.
Comments and questions will be approved before publication by the community administrators weekly.
Be respectful!
This group aims to foster relevant and critical discussions. We encourage members to welcome differing viewpoints and engage respectfully and constructively with diverse voices and perspectives.
Content Sharing
Original content
- Original material in the form of a blog post, interview, report, etc.
- We welcome contributions both in English and Dutch.
- All content will go through preliminary editorial review by the community managers, who may send texts to external reviewers before approving them for publication.
- The comment section will serve as the primary space for discussion and engagement, functioning as an open forum for peer dialogue. We encourage authors to participate in conversations about their posts within the comments.
- We will not make versions of content posts; in exceptional cases, authors may offer corrections (which will be placed clearly recognizable as such).
- Comments will be approved before publication, and moderated by the community managers when necessary (see section “Be Respectful”).
- CC BY is our default option for all original content contributions.
Reused content
- Content already published elsewhere may be featured in the community, provided that it is relevant to the community’s scope.
- Community managers will take care of getting the permissions for reuse and will cite the original source, with acknowledgement of authors and, if relevant, affiliated institutions.
- Licenses and permissions for reuse will vary based on the license/copyright of the original content.
Archiving policy
- We do not provide permanent identifiers (DOIs, etc.).
- Once content is removed from the community, it is no longer accessible, as we do not maintain an archive. However, authors are free to archive, share, or reuse their work as they wish under the CC BY license
- When editors consider removing content, authors will be notified and sent a copy of the article.
Promotions and Advertising
This community facilitates information and discussion on OA book-related topics. Any events or activities relevant to these topics can be promoted via comments or posts; we invite you to send suggestions for posts with clear titles, information, and images (if relevant) to the editors, whose discretion will be final.
Inappropriate spam or promotional content will be removed, and users may be blocked from the community.
Privacy Policy
Please refer to Knowledge Commons’ Privacy Statement.
Consequences of Violations
Participants who are asked to stop any unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately. Community manager(s) retain the right to take appropriate actions, including reporting the user to Knowledge Commons and asking for their expulsion from the community.
Regardless of warnings and bans, we reserve the right to delete any posting determined to be inappropriate.
